Phillip G. Hunt

The principal focus of Phil’s practice is the representation of Unions and employees in all fields of labour and employment law. Phil also takes an active interest in representing client organizations in the community health sector and NGO community.

Phil successfully represented Heather Crowe in her widely publicized Workers’ Compensation claim. This case established that the terminal lung cancer that afflicted Ms. Crowe, a life long non-smoker, had been caused by exposure to second-hand smoke in her workplace.

Phil is a graduate of Queen’s University (Economics/Politics ’81) and Dalhousie University (Law ’84). He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1986, after articling with the Soloway Wright firm. He became partner in the firm in 1992 and subsequently formed the law firm of Shields & Hunt with his partner, Jim Shields, in April 1996.

Away from the office, Phil is an enthusiastic sailor and outdoorsman.
